Mars Gets A Twilight Boost

Bruno Mars is set to release new music with “It Will Rain,” taken from the Twilight: Breaking Dawn soundtrack. With a much-anticipated video, it should bring him plenty of attention.

Today Trends looks at his scrobbles and the performance of previous Twilight tracks, to see how successful the song may be.

The graph above (click image to enlarge) shows his weekly listeners for the past six months, since his last US single release. The release of “Marry You” in other territories shows a peak, but overall he’s dipped from over 40,000 weekly listeners in April to around 35,000 as Doo-Wops & Hooligans passes its one-year anniversary.

It’s clear that fans are still interested, but the power of Twilight should boost Mars further: both of the first two soundtracks have earned Platinum cerfication. Paramore‘s “Decode” from the original OST has earned a Grammy nomination and Platinum certification, as well as 4,917,042 scrobbles from 352,137 listeners. Mars’ most popular track “Just The Way You Are” counts 2,846,597 scrobbles from 251,879 listeners, so we’ll have to see if the film’s magic works on a pop artist.
